Voice Lessons

I offer quality, in-home voice lessons to beginners ages 9-16, or students of any age who have had at least two recent, consecutive years of lessons.

My approach to teaching voice is based on that of my longtime teacher, Thomas R. Blaylock of the Northwest Institute of Voice. Most beginning singers face physiological, not artistic, constraints that prevent them from performing to their full potential. With that in mind, I use a system of vocal exercises designed to build the muscle strength and coordination students need to sing music in any style more effectively. Then, I use carefully-chosen repertoire to help them transfer those techniques into actual music.

Musicianship skills such as theory and note-reading are also important for all singers, including those interested in pop and rock. I incorporate these things into lessons as well, so my students become strong vocalists, strong musicians, and strong artists.
